Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree?
The Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree is a free, public, open mat event for jiu-jitsu practitioners of all ages and skill levels.

Why do we need a public open mat event?
Just because. Everyone gets used to training with their fellow students at their home academy and we often only meet people from other schools in competition. The Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree lets students from all schools train together in a non-competitive environment. Without the pressure of competition, it’s a little easier to try new things, share knowledge, and make new friends.

Who runs the Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree?
The Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree was started by two former graduate students at the University of Northern Colorado with help from members of the UNC Jiu-Jitsu Club and friends from local Jiu-Jitsu academies. Jorge is now a clinical mental health counselor with Northern Colorado Counseling and David is an adjunct faculty member at UNC.

How much does it cost to attend a Jamboree?
Nothing. The Jiu-Jitsu Jamboree is completely free to attend. There are no admission fees for Jiu-Jitsu participants or their guests. Jiu-Jitsu Academies can register to receive a free display table to sell their merchandise and advertise their school.

Can my family come with me?
Absolutely. Well-behaved adults and children are all invited to attend the Jamboree. Thinking of signing yourself or your child up for Jiu-Jitsu classes? The Jamboree is a great opportunity to meet different instructors, see students from different academies, and get a general feel for the Jiu-Jitsu community in your area.

Are there bathrooms / changing facilities available?
Yes! Jiu-Jitsu Jamborees held on the UNC campus will always have bathrooms available for attendees. Jamborees held at the UNC Campus Recreation Center have full locker rooms available with showers (bring your own towel).

Are lockers available?
Lockers are available for day-use in the Campus Recreation Center locker rooms. Just bring your own lock and you can use the lockers for free. There are also day-use combination lockers available outside of the basketball gyms; just set your own combination to lock up your things.
